DHARAMSHALA: The Central Tibetan Administration, Gangkyi, has revealed details of another self-immolation by a monk, inside Tibet. In a statement issued here on Friday, it said this is the 12th self- immolation case this year.
The statement said that a former monk of Karma monastery in Chamdo region of eastern Tibet set himself on fire on December 1, but his present condition is not known.
“Tenzin Phuntsog was father of three — two boys and a girl. He was in his 40s. Police took him away and his whereabouts are unknown,” the statement said.
When contacted, the spokesperson of CTA, Thupten Samphel, said they have received reports from reliable sources in this regard. “I feel that all those who have self-immolated inside Tibet, demanding return of his holiness Dalai Lama to Tibet, are facing a tough situation inside Tibet, which has compelled them to take this extreme step,” he said.
CTA is continuously urging the Chinese government to stop repressive policies on Tibetans. “The Khasag (cabinet) had also requested them to allow media inside Tibet to assess the actual situation there,” he added.
